Grain Quality Management

Carlos Campabadal Teran

Kansas State University

Carlos is a faculty member of the Department of Grain Science and Industry that works at the International Grains Program Institute (IGP) as an extension specialist focusing on outreach in the areas of grain storage, quality and processing, U.S. grain grading and export systems, and feed manufacturing. He also leads the Stored Product Protection Research group and is part of the Feed Technology group of the Department of Grain Science and Industry where he is also serves as the State Extension Leader. He is very active in international development with several projects with USAID in Guatemala and Honduras for the Reduction of Postharvest Loss Innovation Lab, in Ethiopia for the Appropriate Scale Mechanization Consortium of the Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab, and with USDA in Ghana for a Food for Progress project focusing the re-developing of the poultry industry.  He was born and raised in Costa Rica, Central America.

Fungicide Seed Treatments of Soybeans and Wheat

Dr. Doug Jardine was raised on a commercial vegetable farm in southeast Michigan. He obtained a B.S. and M.S. degree in Horticulture and a Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology, all from Michigan State University. Between his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, he worked for nearly five years as a county Extension agent for the Michigan Extension Service. Immediately following graduation in 1985, he joined the faculty of the Department of Plant Pathology at Kansas State University as an assistant professor and an Extension Specialist for row crop pathology. He has nearly 35 years of experience with diseases of corn, soybeans, grain sorghum and sunflowers. His appointment is 90% Extension and 10% research.

Precision Seed Care for Early Crop Protection

Jeff Ochampaugh is a 1987 graduate of Kansas State University and grew up on a diversified dairy and farming operation in Rooks County Kansas. He is a 31-year veteran of the crop protection industry where his career experiences have included sales, marketing, product & business development. For the past 13-years Jeff has served as President of Agrilead, Incorporated; a company started by Jeff and his business partner in 2005.  Jeff’s industry focus for more than a decade has been substantially upon seed care where Agrilead has developed innovative products and services aimed at elevating performance levels of crop protection delivered through seed care. Notable commercial developments for which Jeff has contributed to the industry includes the Novo Seed Care Prescription Management system, two patents involving seed rate calculation methods to deliver consistent levels of active ingredient on a per-seed-basis, patent pending IMPRESS to manage treated seed dust-off with wheat application, and most recently the dry seed finisher products including PIXY and patent pending PIZAZZ.  Jeff has been recognized as a credible seed care industry representative cited within multiple trade publications and involved with many industry speaking engagements including seed care educational talks at the Illinois-Indiana Seed Conditioning Workshops, Idaho Eastern Oregon Seedsman Association, Iowa State Seed Treatment Workshops, and a speaker many times at the Seed Treatment Training Sessions held at the Kansas Ag Business Expo.

Anthony grew up on a small family near Gothenburg, NE.  He attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and received his bachelors in Diversified Agricultural Studies.  He has been working with seed and/or seed treatments for 14 years.  He is currently working for Syngenta as a Seedcare Specialist for the last 3 years.  His primary focus is soybeans and wheat in Kansas, Nebraska, and Eastern Colorado.

John Ricker grew up on a farm and operated a farm after college for 20 years prior to stepping into the role of a location manager of a grain and agronomy facility for 5 years. He has experience in the operation of an applicator as well as managing a chemical warehouse.  With KFSA, Ricker has been in the role as a Safety Director and as a Risk Management Area Manager for 14 years.
